What our customers are saying
Incredible, high-touch experience from start to finish. We worked with Anthem to design a fully custom-branded hat for our internal and sales teams and they did not disappoint. Their attention to detail, speed, and communication were top-notch. 10/10 would recommend and work with again.
We ordered 2,000 custom foam trucker hats and they turned out perfect. We were able to come to them with our own design and vision and they made it work. The entire hat was customizable and we still received our shipment in a reasonable time frame.

What is a distressed trucker hat?
A distressed trucker hat is a front-bill cap that has a well-worn, or “distressed” appearance. Trucker hats usually have the following characteristics (though we can customize them far beyond):
- A snapback closure
- A front panel made of polyester or nylon
- Graphics on the front panel
- A curved or flat brim that extends to the front
- A mesh back
The breathable mesh keeps the wearer’s head much cooler, an ideal benefit when you’re driving in a hot truck cab all day! The mesh back is a big part of the trucker cap’s fashion appeal and is why they’re still such a popular option for company swag and streetwear fashion followers.
The large front panel is a perfect space for patches, embroidery, prints, and more. Originally, the classic trucker hat was designed as free advertising for companies, so it’s a core part of the cap’s design.

Distressed trucker hats FAQs
What is the turnaround time for a custom hat order?
Turnaround time depends on whether you go with an off-the-shelf hat with your logo, or you want to customize details of the hat, such as closure, material, stitching, and more.
- The standard turnaround time for producing an order of off-the-shelf hats is around 2 weeks (+ shipping time). If you have an event soon, or your in-hand date is approaching quickly, this is likely the best option to meet your deadline.
- The turnaround time for custom hats can vary anywhere from 2 to 4 months, depending on different variables of the order. One variable that comes into play is your delivery date, which will help inform the shipment method of your order.
- Air shipping: 2 – 2.5 months (3 weeks for sample, 1 month full production, 2 weeks for shipping)
- Ocean shipping: 3 – 4 months (3 weeks for sample, 1 month full production, 3 months for shipping)
Do all trucker hats have mesh?
Originally, all trucker hats had a mesh panel at the back. In fact, it’s part of what made the style so popular with truckers because it helped them to keep cool when spending long days driving. Before they gained popularity with truckers, they were originally known as feeder caps because they were given away as freebies by animal feed companies.
However, the definition is looser than it used to be. We can customize your trucker hat in any way you like, meaning it doesn’t need to have a mesh back at all!
What are the benefits of a trucker hat?
Trucker hats are the perfect gift for employees, clients, and potential customers. They offer cost-effective advertising space for your brand and get a lot of visibility. They are comfortable, stylish, and highly customizable.
We can make your trucker hats stand out with sublimation printing, special fabrics and patches, custom embroidery, and other details.
Are trucker hats still cool?
Trucker hats are still cool and have become a symbol of American culture. They went through a fashion surge in the 2000s thanks to workwear and skater brands increasing in popularity.
Although trucker caps were originally made by animal feed brands, we now associate them with popular labels (e.g., Adidas, Converse), and also with classic workwear and blue-collar brands (e.g., Dickies, Carhartt).
Why is it called a trucker hat?
The trucker cap gets its name from the people who popularized it: long-haul truck drivers. In the 1970s, agricultural supply companies realized that caps made great mobile billboards, so they started giving away mesh-back caps with their branding on the front.
Among the earliest adopters were truckers, who wore them because the large brim helped keep the sun out of their eyes while driving. But as blue-collar workwear filtered into mainstream fashion, the trucker hat became so much more than a practical accessory.
What is the difference between a trucker hat and a baseball cap?
The terms “trucker hat” and “baseball cap” are often used interchangeably. These days, both terms can refer to any sort of front-brim cap. In the purest, most historical sense, trucker hats were a specific type of baseball hat with the following features:
- Breathable mesh as the back half of the hat. This is to help keep the wearer’s head cool in hot weather, which is a major benefit when driving a truck.
- Foam as the main material. Foam hats were far cheaper to make than cotton.
- Graphics on the front. Often, these promoted a company. Other times, they could be funny or silly.
Baseball caps can also have mesh, foam construction, or promotional or funny graphics. Trucker hats don’t necessarily need to have these features. But in its most classic style, you could say that a trucker hat is a type of baseball cap that meets the three criteria above.
What is distressing in the context of headwear?
“Distressed” is a term used to describe headwear, especially baseball caps and trucker hats, that are intentionally made to look worn, faded or damaged. Some key things that would make a hat appear distressed:
- Fading or discoloration. The colors are faded and muted, as if the hat has been left out in the sun for a prolonged time. This removes the vibrancy.
- Stains and dirt. The hat may have splotches or marks that look like dirt, grease, wear and tear over time. This can create a grungy, well-worn look.
- Holes and tears. There may be small holes, rips, tears or loose stitching, as if the hat is old and falling apart after years of wear. This can expose the mesh backing in places underneath.
- Bent or misshapen bill or crown. The bill or crown of the hat may be bent, rumpled, lopsided or deformed in ways that suggest the hat’s structure has started to break down after extended use.
The goal of distressing hats is to make them look like they’ve been worn for years as a vintage throwback style or to embrace the grunge aesthetic. It’s about replicating imperfections and damage rather than keeping the hats pristinely maintained. Brands artificially distress trucker hats and baseball caps to tap into the demand for this rugged, beat-up look.
